In 1988, after graduating from Belmont Abbey college with a degree in accounting, Charlie set out to become a contractor. With very little experience he started as a framer, learning in the field as well as from books, which he was studying for the North Carolina contractor’s exam. He passed the exam later that year. Over the next few years, he continued learning framing, roofing, siding, concrete, and landscaping all as an independent contractor with his own crews. In 1993 he went to work with Prestige Building company and helped to start the commercial division working with the two owners and mentors who eventually welcomed him as a partner into the company. There he gained experience as a superintendent, then project management and estimating. In 2002 Charlie started his own firm Spectrum Building Company that has successfully completed hundreds of retail centers, restaurants, office buildings, industrial buildings, and boutique hotels. Charlie treats his clients like partners by always looking out for the client’s best interest which explains why a tremendous amount of Spectrum’s work is from repeat customers. In 2018 Charlie welcomed Jason Mulholland as a partner in Spectrum who shares the same vision of quality and client care.
After graduating in 2005 from the University of North Carolina @ Wilmington with degrees in Marketing and Operations Management, Jason immediately landed a job in the construction world running commercial landscaping crews for a high volume production company in Huntersville, NC. With his love for the construction industry and the daily face to face interaction with clients, he jumped into residential home-building for 5 years prior to making the transition into the Commercial world, building ABC stores for the local firm RJ Leeper Co. Fast forward a few years and after a short 11 month stint in Japan, he joined Spectrum Building Company in 2014 as a Project Manager. Jason quickly realized that the values and visions of the company and its Owner, Charlie Caputo, were very much parallel with his. After 4 years Jason was offered a position as partner in and immediately jumped on the opportunity. His attention to detail when assisting customers through the construction process allows for everyone from first time owners to the most seasoned developers feel comfortable while working with Spectrum.
After graduating in 2004 from NC State with a degree in Agricultural Business Management, Jason started with Bovis Lend Lease as a project engineer, working on large healthcare and high-rise projects in Charlotte and Asheville. In 2014 he made the transition into commercial kitchen construction with Clark Food Service. As a project manager there, he worked with clients through design, equipment selection and construction at universities, healthcare facilities, government facilities and restaurants. In early 2019, Jason joined Spectrum Building as a superintendent before moving to project management the following year.
After graduating in Industrial Engineering from NC State, Max gained experience in sales & marketing, industrial automation, and estimating for commercial construction. Since joining Spectrum Building Company in early 2020, he has taken lead on our estimating and pre-construction services.
